Traditional Orthodontic Treatment for Reliable Results
Braces are a durable and time-tested method for straightening teeth and improving oral function. They can address a wide range of orthodontic conditions related to the teeth and jaws.
Most kids who need orthodontic treatment to correct misaligned teeth or jaws start braces between ages 11 and 13, once all their permanent teeth have come in.
However, some children as young as age 7 might need braces. In these cases, we use braces on baby teeth when it’s necessary to create space for adult teeth to come in properly, correct crossbites, or address specific functional issues.
Consultations & Monitoring for Children
Children should visit the orthodontist for their first orthodontic consultation around age 7. This visit allows us to assess whether any orthodontic treatment is needed at that time.
Features of Braces for Kids
If you’re a parent considering braces for your child, it’s good to know that braces have come a long way since you were a kid. Here’s what’s different:
Efficient
Thanks to innovations in orthodontic science, braces are now more efficient at correcting misalignments than ever before. That means kids today often have shorter treatment times.
Low-Profile
Braces used to be bulky and sharp, but today’s metal braces are much smaller and lighter, designed for both comfort and effectiveness. Plus, a great bonus is that modern braces typically only need to be adjusted every eight to ten weeks!
Unique
While braces do change how your smile looks during treatment, they also offer a chance to have some fun! Many of our young patients look forward to picking out their next color for the braces’ elastics, and some even mix and match colors to make their braces really stand out!
